About Joseph Carleton

Joseph Carleton is an attorney with an office in Wells, Maine with an extensive practice in condominium law. He also practices in the area of real estate, wills and probate, and business. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Boston University Law School.
He is a former president of a time share condominium association and the only Maine attorney member of the Community Associations Institute (CAI), the national trade organization of homeowner associations. In the past 20 years, he drafted operating documents for more than 50 condominium projects in southern and central Maine and represents a substantial number of homeowner associations.

His special area of expertese is in governance issues. Mr. Carleton has served as president or chair of many local organizations and as local town meeting moderator for over 20 years, in addition to four terms in the state legislature. He provides practical advice on these matters as part of his legal representation.

He is the author of "Key Elements in Preventive Law - The Legal Audit", Condo Management Magazine, Fall, 1998, and has conducted seminars for Maine condominium directors for the Community Association Institute. He is also the co-author and co-presenter of seminars for Maine attorneys regarding various aspects of condominium law sponsored by the National Business Institute.
